Berghain is one of the world’s most famous clubs and considered the mecca of the techno scene. It is known for its uncompromising sound and stark industrial architecture. The club is located in a former heating plant, built in 1953–4 in the style of Socialist Classicism on the site of what was previously the Wriezen freight depot near Berlin’s Ostbahnhof. As part of the ensemble of buildings along Karl-Marx-Allee, it is a protected historic landmark.
